Re - Connect

Re-connect is a complementary project that aims to improve connectivity between green areas in urban environments. It began in September 2022 with the creation of a Biological Corridor in Quito, Ecuador, linking Rumipamba and La Carolina Park. This corridor is formed by existing green spaces, enhanced with green infrastructure such as rain gardens, pollinator gardens, green roofs, and tree pits with living vegetation.

Nature conservation in cities is essential: these infrastructures not only help address urban challenges such as biodiversity loss and poor air quality, but also provide spaces for recreation and environmental education. The project actively involves the community through environmental education activities and tree-planting days in the intervention areas. In addition, biodiversity data is collected through citizen science initiatives.

“Re-connect” is made possible through the joint work of the Great Leaf Foundation and Nativus, with support from the Environmental Fund and the Environment Secretariat of the Municipality of Quito. Collaboration with professionals, institutions, and companies such as the Quito Zoo, Fonag, the Quito Vivarium, the Rumipamba Archaeological Park, DHL, and San Gabriel School have been essential.

The continuity of the project depends on ongoing support from companies and institutions willing to donate or develop joint initiatives to restore and increase urban biodiversity. Join the change and be part of Re-connect.
